Keep pressing for health-care reform

With the insurance companies acting like bullies, and the Republicans behaving like 2-year-olds, you free-thinkers in La Plata County who know we need universal health-care coverage must keep pushing forward.

You may be in the majority in your county, but Montezuma County is dragging its feet on this issue. We need your voices to show our representatives that as a district, we are in the majority. That is why it is especially important for you to keep speaking up.

Write Sens. Bennet and Udall or call them at (202) 224-5852 and (202) 224-5941 and let them know how you feel. Encourage your neighbors to do the same.

Let friends and acquaintances know we are the only industrialized nation in the world that doesn't have universal health care. Let them know that the health-care system as we know it today is crippling our economy.

Let them know that the Republican Party is mounting an unprecedented effort to scare us into doing nothing.

And, doing nothing means we're stuck with a health-care system that is emptying our pockets and bruising the bottom line of small businesses in order to feather the nests of the health-insurance giants that fund re-election campaigns.

Keep up the pressure. No slacking off.
