For the second consecutive game, Joe Barnd and Abdel Becerra scored goals.
That was all the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team needed Friday night to defeat UC-Colorado Springs in its 7:30 p.m. start with near-freezing temperatures.
Becerra scored his seventh goal this season in the 33rd minute of the match.
Barnd, who started for Euan Purcell, scored his sixth and seventh goals in the 58th and 87th minute, respectively, to lead No. 3 FLC to a 3-nil victory. Dimo Krymanidis assisted Barnd's first goal.
Purcell did not receive medical clearance to play Friday night because of lingering effects from a concussion suffered in the Skyhawks' 1-0 victory against Metro State one week ago at Dirks Field. The league's leading scorer was stepped on the head by a Metro State defender.
Barnd started in Purcell's place for the second consecutive game. He has eight shots - six on goal - three goals and an assist in his stead.
Zane Wells, a Durango High School alumnus, made three saves to earn the shutout.
Fort Lewis (16-1-0 overall, 13-0-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) outshot UCCS 23-5 and outcornered the Mountain Lions 12-0.
There were 13 fouls in the match, and Jeff Jennings and Jamie Cunningham received yellow cards.
Fort Lewis, led by first-year coach Oige Kennedy, will try to finish its perfect RMAC season at noon Sunday at CSU-Pueblo.
