“I’m pretty sure every kid on our team scored. There’s some nights you may not get to play all 13 players, so that’s nice.”
Mark Kellogg, FLC women’s basketball head coach
Skyhawks head coach Mark Kellogg said the final total likely was the most points FLC has ever scored.
"I'm pretty sure it's the largest margin of victory, too," Kellogg said, noting that the blowout win did nothing to mess with his team's rotation.
"Those are tough to play in," he said. "We did a pretty good job of staying within our structure."
Sophomore forward Dana Schreibvogel led all scorers with 20, senior forward Audrey George had 18, and six players reached double figures in the win.
"I'm pretty sure every kid on our team scored," Kellogg said. "There's some nights you may not get to play all 13 players, so that's nice."
The game was played at Piedra Vista High School instead of Whalen Gymnasium to increase FLC's fan base on a Tuesday night when attendance wasn't expected to be very high at the usual home gym.
"This is a great opportunity to reach out to our neighbors in New Mexico and be able to showcase Fort Lewis talent," FLC president Brad Bartel commented in a news release obtained by The Durango Herald.
Still, Kellogg said his team will welcome their true home openers when they host the Skyhawk Classic against Dixie State and Midwestern State on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Both games begin at 5:30 p.m.
"Our kids are more than happy to be back home," Kellogg said, despite a 4-0 start that saw the Skyhawks win the Disney Tip-Off Classic in Anaheim, Calif.
"We're as healthy as can be," Kellogg said. "We're ready, we're excited."
Complete stats for Tuesday night's game are expected to be posted at goskyhawks.com today.
