"We had a good day running the football," said head coach Marshall Hahn, pointing to standout performances from sophomore fullback Seth Posey, senior tailback Brenden Harrison and sophomore tailback Aaron Velasquez.
Statistics were unavailable when The Durango Herald went to press Friday night.
Hahn said the Wolverines got out to a fast start, driving for a touchdown after the opening kickoff and again minutes later after recovering a Centauri fumble to achieve a 16-0 lead with less than five minutes remaining in the first quarter.
"We just decided that the game was over," said Hahn, whose team conceded a touchdown before the half but came out again revitalized.
"We played well in the third quarter," Hahn said. "We didn't score any points, but we had given them some momentum we had to overcome."
Two more Bayfield scores in the fourth quarter put the finishing touches on the league-opening victory.
The Wolverines will try to keep their momentum rolling at 7 p.m. Friday, when they host Buena Vista, their final home game before a three-game road swing.
Bayfield plays at Salida, Aztec - then is idle - and Monte Vista the next four weeks.
Bayfield will host Pagosa Springs on Nov. 6 in its regular-season finale.
