100 years ago: Jim Walsh, a bridge supervisor in the San Juan Basin, was in Durango for the night. He was wearing a plug hat, which was used to “catch rivets” when repairing steel or iron bridges.

75 years ago: Western State College students from Gunnison were in Durango for a three-day trip that included a visit to “Mesa Verde Park.”

50 years ago: Democrats in La Plata County left for Fort Collins to attend the Colorado state assembly and convention.

25 years ago: La Plata County Sheriff Bill Gardner announced that a ban on all outside fires was ordered for La Plata County until further notice.
