Fort Lewis College leaders, in July, attended the first Native American-Serving Nontribal Institutions national summit in Denver.

Provided by the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, the summit brings together leaders from the 24 NASNTI organizations in the United States to improve postsecondary attainment for Native Americans and Alaskans.

Fort Lewis College received a $10,000 grant – one of 11 supplied – from the Lumina Foundation. The grant will fund initiatives to help Native Americans and Alaska Natives achieve academic success at the college.

Colorado Department of Higher Education set a goal to increase the percentage of 25- to 34- year-old Native American students who earn higher education credentials from 29 to 66 percent by 2025.
