Best bets for the weekend in and around Durango

Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018 4:25 PM

Best bets this weekend for people include the Raven Narratives live storytelling performances and the Ignacio Green Chile Festival and Cook-off.

The Raven Narratives will present live storytelling events Friday at the Grand Imperial Hotel, 1219 Greene St., in Silverton, and Saturday at James Ranch, 33846 U.S. Highway 550, north of Durango.

Storytellers who live in the area will share true tales from personal experience based on a theme. The theme for this round is “water,” and the featured stories connect the communities of Silverton and Durango.

Storytellers scheduled to perform include:

Silverton residents Beverly Rich, Claudia Eiserman, Kim Grant, Nico Foster and David Swanson, who will share their experiences with orca whales, avalanches, deep diving pools and more.

Durango residents Katrina Blair and Brad Tafoya and Mancos resident John Chmelir, who will share experiences of hiking from Durango to Silverton, Dark Canyon transformations and Alaska helicopter adventures.

Doors open at 7 p.m. with performances at 7:30 p.m. for the event Friday in Silverton, and people are invited to arrive as early as 5:30 p.m. to eat dinner and find seating Saturday at James Ranch.

Tickets for both events can be purchased at Maria’s Bookshop, 960 Main Ave., or online at:
