Quinn Simmons, 7, the son of Scott and Holly Simmons and the older brother of Colby, goes to his backhand to score the Mites' only goal against Flagstaff goaltender Mason Haughey during the Durango Steamers' 3-1 loss Saturday against the Northstars in the Mites' second of three games Saturday at Chapman Hill Ice Rink.
Durango, which went 1-3 on Saturday, is hosting a pair of teams from New Mexico and one from Arizona this weekend in the Steamers Cup. Behind goals from Landen Sill, Xander Sakadinsky and Simmons, Durango defeated the New Mexico Ice 3-1 in Game 1. Devon Steffler scored six goals and Sill a hat trick in Durango's 10-9 loss to Telluride in Game 3. Durango will play Taos at 7 a.m. today. The consolation championship will be played at 11:30 a.m. today and the Cup championship at 12:45 p.m.
