As board chairman of the Four Corners Gay and Lesbian Alliance for Diversity, I want to commend the Herald for printing
the rantings of Vi McCoy. The first time I read one of her letters, I, too, was horrified by her beliefs and hate
toward myself and others in our community. However, the outpouring of letters in opposition to her beliefs only
strengthens my pride in Southwest Colorado.
We truly live in a beautiful part of the country, not only for its scenery but also for the caring and compassionate
people who live here. I decided long ago to stop responding each time McCoy wrote a letter and always have been amazed
at the number of letters written in support of the GLBT community by our straight allies in the area.
For those in our community who are struggling with their sexuality or hiding behind closed doors, it must be a blessing
for them to see the support from the community for their right to live free and open. As I have said in the past, we
are part of this community, and the letters in response each time McCoy spews her hate only reinforce this opinion.
From the entire GLBT community in this area, I thank you for your support.
