I found it paradoxical that the Herald ran an article pertaining to bullying in schools, the link to teen suicide and
the legal responsibility that schools have to counteract bullying on the same day (March 31) as a Herald editorial
outlined the reasons why hate speech by one individual was allowed to continue.
What the Herald seemed to fail to recognize was that this particular letter by Vi McCoy targeted the children of gay
and lesbian families, many of whom I know have read that letter and whose peers were subjected to that information. I
would submit that having a child read that his or her parents are sexual predators and that someone is advocating
forcibly removing these children from their homes is tantamount to bullying or worse.
