Earlier this week, I sat back in my chair so far that I almost fell over backwards after the comments I heard from Rory McIlroy about his decision not to compete in the Olympics and the twisted comment about his quest to win championships and not to promote the game of golf for someone else.
I understand the reasoning to win championships and make money, but there are many young golfers – and some of us older – who love the game and who look up to and follow these professionals. I guess the only Rory I will remember is Rory Calhoun – what a great actor – at least he knew how to play the part.

Dalton Ranch Golf ClubDalton Ranch will host it’s annual Member/Member tournament Saturday and Sunday. This is one of the great bragging rights events of the year. Check with the pro shop for sign-up info.
South Forty Golf CourseI wanted to drop a couple of side notes for our friends at South Forty in Cortez. The annual Medicine Horse Tournament has moved it’s date to Aug. 27th. This is an annual fundraiser for the work the facility in Mancos does for our four-legged beautiful animals. Also, South Forty is reducing it’s season passes, good through December of this year, to only $150, which is a great bargain. Give the Maness’ a call at 565-3501 for information on either topic.
Devil’s Thumb Golf CourseA regional event Aug. 6-7 in Delta should peak the interest of our area lady golfers, as the 16th annual Devil’s Thumb Ladies Classic will be played on this challenging course to our north. The field is limited to the first 48 teams. Give organizers a call at 874-6262 for sign-up information.
