It took just 40,880 days to bring the sport of golf back to the Olympics, and think what we have missed from the first encounter back in 1904.
Gone are wooden shafts, coats and ties, tin cups instead of beverage carts, and there was no one shouting the stupid phrase “get in the hole” after every tee shot! Ah, the good old days.
But, the return of golf to the 31st Olympiad was a thrill right down to the final hole as a Rose is a Rose is a Rose, and England’s Justin Rose proved to those no-shows how special it is to stand up for your country on the podium alongside Sweden’s Henrik Stenson and Matt Kuchar of the United States. There were plenty of goose bumps to go around.
Now, onto Japan four years from now, and let’s hope the powers to be at the IOC have the backbone to keep golf in the mix for decades to come.
Congratulations goes out to Colorado Springs PGA Professional and longtime participant in the Navajo Trail Open Mike Northern, who captured the 2016 Colorado Senior PGA Professional Championship Tuesday in Lafayette. Northern shot a two-day score of 10-under-134 and will lead a contingent of seven players in mid-November to the 2016 Senior PGA Professional Championship in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
