The Ignacio High School baseball team will open play Saturday afternoon in the CHSAA Class 2A Regionals at Alamosa High
The Bobcats, who won the District Tournament last weekend in Cortez, will play Fowler at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the
Ignacio (9-11) stormed past Rangely 12-9 and Paonia 10-9 last Saturday to win a berth among the final 16 Class 2A
Fowler (13-7) enters the tournament coming off a 5-1 loss in the District Tournament final to Custer County
(Westcliffe) last weekend.
Custer County, bidding for its third consecutive state championship, also is in the Alamosa bracket. Custer County
(11-10) will play Paonia (10-6) at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The Regional championship game will be played at 3 p.m. Saturday at Alamosa High School.
The Class 2A state semifinals and final will be played May 21-22 at Englewood High School in the Denver area.
The state's top-ranked Class 2A baseball team, Resurrection Christian of Loveland, will play at the Regional at
Northeastern Junior College in Sterling. Resurrection Christian (19-2) will play Wiggins (14-4).
Holyoke (13-6) will take on Front Range Christian of Littleton (16-3) in the other Regional semifinal in Sterling.
Other top 2A teams in the 16-team bracket are Las Animas (18-4), Limon (16-4) and La Veta (16-4).
Ignacio turned to the offense last weekend in wins over Rangely and Paonia. Rangely was 15-3 before falling to
Josh Plehinger, Garret Becker, Tony Hutchinson, Mark Garcia, Tyler Young and Anthony Porambo led the way with
multiple hits in both games at Cortez.
Class 3A playoffs The Bayfield Wolverines will wait until Wednesday to see who and where they will play in the CHSAA
Class 3A Districts.
The Class 3A baseball seeding will be completed Wedneday afternoon in Denver.
Teams will head to district sites for games on Saturday.
The Wolverines qualified for the next round of the playoffs by winning the Intermountain League Tournament last
weekend in Alamosa. Bayfield topped Centauri 16-2 in five innings and then topped Monte Vista 3-2 in the championship
The Wolverines, who also won the IML regular-season title, are 13-6 heading into Saturday's play.
