I have been busily attending various public forums and researching for unbiased information on the internet in an effort to learn about the candidates running in the upcoming election. It is clear to me that in my lifetime this election is the most decisive ever.
How will we address climate change, healthcare or political and social unrest? The views of candidates, political parties, and voters are very opposite and so we, the voters, have to make sure that we account for future generations because they will see the consequences of the direction we take today.
Locally Gwen Lachelt and Julie Westendorff represent a balanced responsible viewpoints needed to take La Plata County in the right direction. U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Denver, and U.S. House candidate Gail Schwartz, D-Crested Butte, have also shown responsible positions that will move us in the right direction.
Lastly there is an excellent unbiased explanation of all local issues on the ballot in plain simple language that can be found at lwvcolorado.org under “vote” and “ballot issues.” A sample ballot can also be found there.
So please remember to vote, not voting can result in serious consequences for us all.
