I was surprised that no story about the May 28 Durango High graduation ceremony ran in the Herald. I was disappointed, as were, I'm sure, all the graduates and their families.
I understand that much of the paper's stories since then related to the bike races last weekend and realize that lots of deserved coverage was devoted to those events. However, these students have spent the last 12 years of their lives studying very hard, and I believe they should receive recognition for this accomplishment.
I know there were 28 valedictorians who should have received extra credit in the news, but of course, there was no mention of who these students are. Senior class president Kelsey Scott gave an inspiring and motivational keynote speech and, of course, none of that was mentioned in the news. My understanding is that she plans to send a press release to your office soon, and I hope you will be able to print it.
I also hope that you could ask a reporter to get more information about the ceremonies and print an article in the very near future including the names of the graduates and a list of the valedictorians.
