Recently, we had the opportunity to stay in Durango for several weeks. This was not our first visit to your town. Besides all the wonderful weather and landscapes, we again found your town of Durango to be a welcome place full of good folks.
Most impressive is your local and deep pride of country and military service. During this last Memorial Day time, we had the privilege of attending the Southern Ute Indian Reservation in Ignacio and were impressed with their memorial services with their deep and sincere reverence for military veterans and active service members. The Southern Ute Memorial Day services were one of the best ever.
The tribe's cultural values and deep feelings were very evident and moving. During one of our shopping days in your town, some good folks placed a "Thank You for My Freedom" card on my car's window. Apparently, they noticed my military decal and Tailhook naval aviator ball cap in the rear window. More than just thoughtful, we found this to be indicative of the folks in your town.
As a career Navy fighter/attack pilot, I am proud of and grateful to all of the good folks in and around Durango who take the time to just say "thank you" as so many residents did during our visit.
Again, to all the good folks in Durango, may I take this opportunity to say "thank you" for being the good folks you are. In Naval terms: Bravo Zulu! Well done!
