Baptist church to hold outdoor service
The public is invited to join First Baptist Church beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Durango Community Recreation Center Amphitheater for a breakfast brunch and worship service.
The breakfast potluck will be held at 9 a.m., and the worship will start at 9:45 a.m. Bring a chair or blanket.

Tribute to servicemen to be held July 4
"Heroes Among Us" a tribute to servicemen will be held at 9:45 a.m. July 4 at Frontier Baptist Church, 2201 Forest Ave.
There will be special services to honor military men and women who have served or are now serving in any branch of the U.S. military. Those who have served or are now on active duty are invited. The Rev. Roy Hawthorne, a former Navajo Code Talker from WWII will share his experiences.

Vacation Bible School to be held in Hesperus
Hesperus Baptist Church will hold Vacation Bible School from 8:45 to 11:45 a.m. July 5 to 9 at 22972 Colorado Highway 140 in Hesperus.
Children will be introduced to some unnamed, yet amazing heroes from the Bible. They will create projects, enjoy snacks, learn and play.

Lutheran church announces events
Christ the King Lutheran Church, 495 Florida Road, announces the following events:
•The alternative service will focus on feeding children are families on Thursday. Members will barbecue from 4 to 6 p.m. in front of the church. Volunteers are needed to donate food and serve. To help, call 247-5310.
•New Sunday service times will begin July 4. The contemporary worship will be held at 8 a.m., CtK University will meet at 9:15 a.m., and the traditional worship will take place at 10:30 a.m.
bA Fourth of July concert and picnic will take place after the 10:30 a.m. July 4 worship. Steve Nogarede's "Durango Jazz Ensemble" and Ian Osby's "Mass Confusion" band will perform.
Hot dogs will be provided. Participants should bring a side dish to share.

Handbell concert to be held July 5
The Ivey Handbell Ringers from First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte, N.C., will present a handbell concert at 7 p.m. July 5 at First United Methodist Church, 2917 Aspen Drive.
The program will include original handbell compositions, and arrangements of spirituals, show tunes and classical pieces.
The group, directed by Rebecca Puster, is on a 12-day concert tour of Colorado. The group is made up of 10 high school students who perform on five-plus octaves of handbells and handchimes.
