The Bayfield High School girls basketball team beat Monte Vista 64-56 in the championship of the Intermountain League District Tournament on Saturday night - on the Pirates' home turf, no less.
Senior Lindsey Shaw led No. 1-seeded BHS with 24 points, nine rebounds, seven steals and five assists.
Junior Myra Dean had 12 points and three steals, and senior Lindsey Lind added nine points.
The Wolverines (16-4) were tied with Monte Vista at the end of the half 29-29, but Bayfield head coach Stephanie Dennison said her team returned from the break with a boost.
"We had a big third quarter," Dennison said.
"We came out and decided right then that we wanted this game."
Dennison said a 3-pointer by senior Amanda Broad at the end of the quarter put the finishing touches on the Pirates.
"It gave us a little more spark, after we were already playing well," Dennison said.
The Bayfield girls will find out today if they will host the regional portion of the state playoffs.
Dennison said she is hopeful that the Wolverines will get the nod for home playoff games next weekend.
