Work-force board to meet Wednesday
The Southwest Colorado Workforce Investment Board will meet from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Florida Room at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
Agenda items will include regular business and local work-force concerns.

Speed limit reduced on County Road 251
The speed limit on County Road 251 will be reduced from 35 to 30 miles per hour.
This road is an extension of 32nd Street connecting to East Animas Road (County Road 250). It is part of the main detour for the Florida Road construction project.
Crews also will restripe the outside edge lines of County Road 251, which will be completed by Friday. Traffic delays will be minimal.

Candidate debate to be held July 23
The Home Builders Association of Southwest Colorado will sponsor a debate for La Plata County commissioner and Colorado District 6 Senate candidates at 8 a.m. July 23 in the Pullman Room at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.
The debate will be moderated by Ted Holteen, arts and entertainment editor for The Durango Herald, and Gina Antrillo, news director of Four Corners Broadcasting. Pastries, coffee and juice will be available at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $8 per person.

b Stringing the Guitar How to Do It Yourself from 7 to 9 p.m. July 22. Participants should bring acoustic steel string guitars and a set of new strings. Advance signup is required.
b Computer Basics at 2 p.m. Monday in the library meeting room. Participants will learn how to turn the machine on and off, use a mouse, save documents and more. Advance signup is required.
b Beginning Microsoft Word at 2 p.m. July 22. Advanced signup is required.
b Artificial Anasazi: Recreating the Past in a Computer from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Archaeologist George J. Gumerman will give this talk.

Bear-sighting hot line available
Residents are encouraged to report bear sightings and incidents to the Bear Smart hot line, 387-URSA (8772).
Callers will be asked to include the date, address and a brief description of any bear activity.
If a bear is acting aggressively, call the Colorado Division of Wildlife at 247-0855.
Information about who to call to report bear-strewn trash in Durango and La Plata County is available through the hot line, too.
