BP pipeline ruptures near Bayfield, spills into Sauls Creek

Cause of break not yet known
BP crews work to contain a spill of produced water from one of its pipelines along Sauls Creek east of Bayfield.
Produced water – a byproduct of oil and gas extraction – traveled across a sagebrush and a meadow and into Sauls Creek, an intermittent stream that flows into Beaver Creek, which meets the Los Pinos River a few miles south of Bayfield. This shows the flow path of the spill.
