We are impressed, and at times depressed, with the Heralds broad coverage of the medical marijuana issue. We also are quite concerned.
Of those who apparently favor some aspect of medical marijuana officials, media, the public, students and, naturally, growers and sellers, we wonder how many have used or currently are using this drug? To clarify, we are not defending the use or abuse of other substances versus marijuana. But in general, how knowledgeable are the supporters and defenders of medical marijuana of this drugs effects and potential long-term impact?
After all, marijuana is a drug. Why not control it where other dugs are controlled in our pharmacies? Why promote proliferation of profit-making dispensaries?
Many prescription drugs warn against users driving vehicles after taking the drug. What about marijuana? Who wants to face the possibility of increasing numbers of marijuana users on our highways?
We still have time to rethink this thorny issue. We owe it to ourselves, our families and our society.
