An estimated crowd of 3,000 or more will be on hand Sunday when Michael Franti & Spearhead play an outdoor show at Three Springs in Grandview.
One of the highest-energy performers going, Franti recently completed a tour with John Mayer and is currently on the Sound of Sunshine tour. Frantis latest CD, All Rebel Rockers, had the highest chart debut of any release in his career and the song Say Hey (I Love You) is his most commercially successful hit to date. It produced his first Top 20 Billboard Hot 100 single, was certified digital platinum, and the songs video garnered nearly 5 million YouTube views.
Frantis performances are marked by a genuine openheartedness, a commitment to communication and a greater sense of community.
The people who come to see us seem to love the experience of the party as well as the message and the music, Franti said in a news release.
The band performed in Mancos in 2008 to a crowd of 3,100 and will arrive in Durango after a sold out show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison on Saturday night.
The Bay Area-born Franti has been recording powerful, deeply felt music in a wide range of genres for 20 years as both a solo artist and founder of the band Spearhead. From the intense punk rock of the Beatnigs, to the deeply political rap he made with the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy to his joyful and meaningful modern soul music with Spearhead, and now as Michael Franti & Spearhead, Franti has achieved international fame as one of the leading socio-political artists of this generation.
Tickets cost $40 in advance, $45 at the gate, and can be purchased locally at Animas Trading Co. and the Three Springs Information Center and online at www.michaelfranti.com.
