The La Plata County Sheriffs Office on Tuesday interviewed friends and family members close to Ted Garcia, the restaurant manager who was found fatally shot last weekend in his home.
Investigators remained unsure Tuesday of the circumstances leading to Garcias death. Specifically, they were unsure whether the death was a suicide or the result of foul play, said Ed Phippen, an investigator.
No arrests had been made as of Tuesday.
Were just getting a lot of interviews done, Phippen said.
Garcia was a cook and manager at Franciscos Restaurante y Cantina, 619 Main Ave. in Durango.
His brother-in-law, Joseph Dernago, called 911 at 11 a.m. Saturday to report Garcias body in the kitchen and dining area of Garcias home in the 1000 block of County Road 206, just west of city limits.
When authorities arrived, it was clear Garcia had been shot in the torso and was beyond being revived.
A high-powered hunting rifle lay nearby.
An autopsy determined the gunshot was a contact wound, meaning it was fired against his shirt and body.
An obituary runs today on Page 2A.
