Currently showing at the Center for Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College are the juried photographs for the 6th annual juried photography show. The opening date was Jan. 25, and the show closes March 27. About 50 photographs are displayed from about 25 photographers. As the title "Images of the Southwest" implies, these are primarily landscape scenes, but not exclusively. Because the Southwest is mostly landscape - beautiful landscape - it's appropriate.
As an independent photographer, this juried show is especially important to me. The number of photographers represented ensures a diverse and powerful photographic display. Many top-notch, regional talents are represented. Also, the last two shows have been juried by outside professional photographers. This helps to eliminate the prejudices and politics of the local photographic scene.
For the general public, this could be one of the most attractive photographic displays within the last year and in this area. It's unclear to me why The Durango Herald doesn't consider a review appropriate. It certainly deserves recognition, as do the photographers.
