Dr. Richard Grossman is feeling the heat from Durango Catholics, thus his cheap shots against nuns in the Herald (July 25).
The fact is that it is young Hispanic lay Catholics who are leading the charge against his presence on the staff of Durangos purportedly Catholic hospital, Mercy Regional Medical Center.
Directive 45 of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Directives for Catholic health-care institutions remains ignored by hospitals and unenforced by bishops. It states, in part, Catholic health-care institutions need to be concerned about the danger of scandal in association with abortion providers.
The scandal of Grossman having privileges at a Catholic hospital is that it sends a message that his actions arent that evil. If he were a rapist, he wouldnt be there, but being an abortion provider is OK.
The local bishop is expected to intervene when Catholic hospitals violate the USCCBs directives. Grossmans unopposed presence at Mercy has scandalized Catholics for a generation.
Hes been allowed to infiltrate Durangos establishment and deliver half the Catholic babies while aborting others a large percentage of them brown-skinned at Planned Parenthood. Its past time for Mercy to lose its Catholic identity for enabling this travesty.
