Red Cross accepting donations for Pakistan
The local chapter of the American Red Cross is accepting donations to help families affected by the flooding in Pakistan.
To make a donation to the Red Cross/Red Crescent efforts in Pakistan, mail a check to The American Red Cross, 1911 Main Ave., Suite 282, Durango, CO 81301 with a memo that reads: Funds for Pakistan Floods. Donations also may be made online at www.coloradored cross.org.

Pressure-cooking class set for Tuesday
A free pressure-cooking class will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Lavenia McCoy Public Library in the library meeting room, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield.
Wendy Rice with the Colorado State University Extension Service will discuss pressure-cooking methods and perform a hands-on demonstration. Advanced registration is appreciated.

VA benefits meeting to be held in Pagosa
The Department of Veterans Affairs will conduct a VA benefits presentation to veterans and their families residing in the Pagosa Springs area at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Archuleta County Courthouse, 449 San Juan St. in Pagosa Springs.
Topics covered will include compensation and pension benefits, VA guaranty home loans and VA educational benefits.
VA employees will be available after the presentation to answer questions and provide assistance with completing claim forms.
River workgroups to meet Thursday
The Vallecito Creek/Pine River Workgroup will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the cafeteria of the Ross Aragon Community Center in Pagosa Springs for a panel discussion about river and stream protection tools.
The groups mission is to promote education and to answer questions raised in previous meetings.
Panelists will include Jackie Dietrich, Meghan Maloney, Ted Kowalski and Kay Zillich. Also, either Sen. Bruce Whitehead or Scott Brinton will join the panel.

LPEA solar workshops have been canceled
Because of low registration, the solar-photovoltaic and solar-thermal workshops planned for Thursday at La Plata Electric Association have been canceled.
People interested in either of the workshops offered through the Colorado Solar Energy Industries Association can register to attend similar seminars on Wednesday in Gunnison.
The association will offer the Advanced PV & Building Code Workshop and Solar Thermal: Combination Domestic Hot Water and Space Heating Design Options.
