Support group needs volunteers
Sexual Assault Services Organization is seeking volunteers to teach sexual-assault prevention tools.
The organizations prevention education volunteers empower children to assert their rights or dialogue with teens about intervening to prevent gender violence. Free trainings will begin in September.

Bayfield library to show documentary
The Lavenia McCoy Public Library in Bayfield will show and discuss the documentary The Oiling of America at 7 p.m. Thursday in the meeting room, 395 Bayfield Center Drive.
The film explores the vegetable oil industry.

Farmers market to host Iron Horse Chef
Healthy Lifestyle La Plata and the Colorado State University Extension of La Plata County will host the third annual Durango Iron Horse Chef Competition from 8:45 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 28 at the Durango Farmers Market, in the parking lot of First National Bank of Durango on the corner of Eighth Street and Narrow Gauge Avenue.
The competition will be a series of challenges pitting two chefs against each other. The chefs will have 1½ hours to shop and prepare dishes all at the farmers market.
The first event will be between Chris Crowl of Cosmopolitan and Vera Hansen of Cyprus Cafe. The winner will compete against defending champion Ryan Lowe of the Ore House on Sept. 11.

Auction fundraiser to be held in Arboles
TARA (Tiffany, Arboles, Rosa, Allison) will host an auction and dinner at 5 p.m. Aug. 28 at the community center in Arboles, 333 Milton Lane.
The silent auction will begin at 5 p.m. followed by dinner and a live auction at 6:30 p.m. Proceeds will be used to finish and furnish the new community center building.
