The Bayfield High School girls soccer team opened the season Saturday with a 4-0 victory over Montezuma-Cortez at Wolverine Country Stadium in Bayfield.
"That's a big win for us," BHS head coach Jen Zelinski said. "The girls played well. It was awesome."
Freshman Keenan Moreta scored two goals for the Wolverines.
Senior Megan Lane added a goal when she collected a rebound off a penalty kick offered by Moreta.
Sophomore Jessica Vasquez added the fourth goal.
Mady Freeman and Moreta controlled the midfield area, Zelinski said.
Senior Amber Howlett and freshman Jaylie Ross split time in goal for BHS.
The Wolverines play at home again Tuesday afternoon when Pagosa Springs visits (4 p.m.).
