Will Latimer, a Bayfield High School alumnus, throws for the Salem Red Sox in a minor league game earlier this season. Latimer is 5-6 this season with a 3.36 ERA in 34 games and 69.2 innings pitched. The left-handed reliever has two saves, two holds and 62 strikeouts against 18 walks.

Before there was Will Latimer, there was Derek Rodriguez.
After there was Will Latimer, there was Sam Phippen.
Rodriguez, the former multi-sport star at Ignacio High School, was drafted in the 37th round of the 2007 first-year player draft by the Kansas City Royals.
He currently plays for the Burlington Royals in the Rookie Appalachian League.
The 5-9, 160-pound outfielder is hitting .185 in 130 at-bats this season. A regular contributor for the Royals, he has one home run, nine runs batted in, 24 runs scored and 15 stolen bases.
Phippen, a 6-9, 210-pound right-handed pitcher, was drafted in the 41st round of this year’s first-year player draft by the Chicago White Sox. He then reported to the Bristol White Sox in the Rookie Appalachian League.
He has appeared in three games, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out five in three innings.
