The Title VII Parent Advisory Committee meeting will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at Park Elementary School, 623 E. Fifth St.
DHS student named to council
Durango High School Student Council announces that Class of 2012 Vice President Brenna Christensen has been appointed to the Colorado Youth Advisory Council for a two-year term.
The advisory council is the body responsible for advising the Colorado Legislature about youth-related issues.
DHS students needed for commission
Durango High School students are encouraged to apply to be part of the Mayors Youth Advisory Commission.
Applications must be given to Dale Garland by Sept. 16.

Tickets available for DHS Theatre
Season tickets are on sale for the Durango High School Theatre season.
For $55 patrons receive two tickets to these shows: Footloose, Rabbit Hole and Alice Wonderland. Additional tickets also are available.

Teacher, principal nominations accepted
Distinguished Title I teacher and principal nominations are due by Tuesday.
The Office of Federal Program Administration recognizes outstanding teachers and administrators through the Title I Distinguished Teacher and Principal Awards.
Nominators are asked to complete a nomination form. A committee will review the nominations and select 10 finalists for each award.
If your nominee is selected, you will be asked to complete the full nomination packet.

Finalists will be announced at the end of September. Completed nomination packets are due Nov. 1. Award recipients will be announced no later than Nov. 19.

Ribbon cutting to be held at college
Southwest Colorado Community College will celebrate the opening of its new cosmetology facility with a ribbon cutting at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the West Campus, 33057 U.S, Highway 160 in Mancos.

Childhood council to meet in Cortez
The Montelores Early Childhood Council will meet at 11:45 a.m. Sept. 13 at the Church of Christ annex on the corner of Adams Street and Montezuma Avenue in Cortez.
All are invited. Dinner will be provided. The council is made up of concerned residents who wish to improve the lives and opportunities of children in Montezuma and Dolores counties.

b Turn Your Childrens Story Idea into a Published Book with Lynn Kuntz will be held Sept. 11.
The class will explore the elements that make good childrens stories; resources specific to writing books for children; mastering proper manuscript formats; and researching markets that buy manuscripts.
The cost is $45.
b Introduction to Construction Management with Dallas Page in English or Introducción a la Gestión de la Construcción impartido por Michael Gary Devloo en español will be held Tuesdays for 12 weeks beginning Sept. 14.
The cost is $305, which includes a textbook.
A discount will be given for registrations received by Friday.

Life-Long Learning, sponsored by Professional Associates through Fort Lewis College, will present Inside Iran, From Mashad to Tehran by Marilee Jantzer-White at 7 p.m. Sept. 9 in Room 130 of Noble Hall,
Jantzer-White is a history and art history professor and recent traveler to Iran.
