Nature walk for children today
Durango Nature Studies will host Wee Walkabouts from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the Rotary Park Pavilion.
The program is for children ages 2 to 5 with a parent and costs $5 per child. The topic will be sense of smell. A naturalist will lead the program along the Animas River Trail. No reservations are needed.

Small business forum to be today in Cortez
Experts from the business community and Sen. Bruce Whitehead will host a small-business forum from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Cortez Chamber of Commerce, 928 E. Main St. in Cortez.
The forum will address state resources for small businesses including incentives and tax credits, micro-lending, business growth mentorship programs, procuring government contracts, recruitment help and more.

PERA to hold membership drive
The La Plata School and Public Employees Retirement Association is conducting a membership drive.
PERA retirees and employees from all state departments are encouraged to join the local La Plata School and Public Employees Retirement Association, as well as the state organization, Colorado School and Public Employees Retirement Association.
Annual dues for the state group are $24 for PERA retirees and $12 for current PERA employees. Annual dues for the county organization are $2.

Ignacio library to hold book, bake sale
Friends of the Ignacio Community Library will hold its annual book and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at 470 Goddard Ave. in Ignacio.
There also will be a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Breakfast is $4 and includes pancakes, sausage and coffee or orange juice. There will be live entertainment.

Improvements set for U.S. 160 bridge
Improvements will be made to the U.S. Highway 160 bridge at Santa Rita Drive from Sept. 1 to mid-October.
The work will consist of placing rock material around the bridges center pier to stabilize and protect it from scouring.
Impacts to traffic will be limited to the westbound lane. On occasion, trucks entering and exiting the highway at the access point at Santa Rita may slow westbound traffic.
The bike and pedestrian path below the bridge will be closed for as long as five minutes at a time, but only when trucks are present.
