Photography workshop to take place in Cortez
The Cortez Cultural Center will offer a Fall Photography Workshop, taught by Paul Pennington, from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12.
The workshop will be held on-site in a beautiful mountain setting, and will be limited to eight students in order to maximize individual attention and progress.
Students will receive information about equipment, camera settings, lighting, filtration, white balance, using flash, macro settings, composition and many other practical aspects of personal and freelance photography. Assignments for future shoots will be considered.
Paul Pennington teaches college photography and has had photos published in TheDenver Post, High Country News, Mountain Gazette, Inside/Outside, Bike, Climbing and Natural History.
The cost of the workshop is $65. The Cortez Cultural Center is located at 25 N. Market St.

Fort Lewis introduces Emerging Artist Series
The Fort Lewis College theatre department will launch its new Emerging Artist Series on Saturday. The series was created to give new theater, dance and performing artists a venue where they can perform and display new, innovative works of art.
Proceeds benefit this years featured artist, Amelia Charter, and the Fort Lewis College Theatre Scholarship Fund.
Charter will perform her original creation, A Sculpformance: A collision of disciplines: Sculpture and Performance, at 7:30 p.m. in the Gallery Theatre, located in the Theatre Building.
A question-and-answer session will be after the performance at 8:30 p.m. There is no charge for admission, but donations will be accepted at the door.
Charter is a graduate of FLC and a member of the Movement Improvisation Lab in Denver at the Packing House Center for the Arts.

DAC to host festival and showcase of arts
The Durango Arts Center will host its 16th annual fine arts and crafts festival Sept. 11 and 12 on East Second Avenue in downtown Durango.
The Durango Autumn Arts Festival, held in conjunction with the inaugural Durango Showcase of the Arts, will feature artisans from around the country exhibiting works in various media including painting, sculpture, glass and ceramics.
