I was fortunate in the past to have been elected to local public office for a period of some 16 years. In that time, I was lucky to serve with some great people who did their very best to represent the folks who elected them.
I also worked with some people who honestly made my jaw drop, on both extremes of what I felt best served the taxpayers. At the upper, positive end of those extremes was J. Paul Brown.
As a county commissioner, J. Paul and I shared the same view that unless you treated every penny of tax revenues with utmost respect, we were doing a disservice to the taxpayers who picked up the tab. No detail, no expenditure was too small to simply ignore, and every dollar should and could be accounted for. Trying to instill efficiencies into government and balancing a budget at any level can be daunting, but it can be done!
J. Paul was, and is, aware that government has to have funds to operate, to provide the services necessary to protect citizens and to recognize the laws that are the basis of a democratic representative government. He doesn't always follow party lines and dictates; he instead makes decisions that best serve his constituents.
I am pleased he is running for the state House of Representatives, and I'm comfortable with the manner he will serve the 59th District with honesty, integrity and real backbone. I recommend you cast your vote for a lifetime local guy who will look out for you.
