Fort Lewis College will host the Southwest Business Forum 2009 on Friday. The forum will be held from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Community Concert Hall.
Each year, the forum draws business and community leaders to hear economic experts' updates and forecasts.
Slated to speak this year are Richard Wobbekind, director of the University of Colorado-Boulder Business Research Division; Scott Anderson, senior economist and vice president at Wells Fargo Bank; and Fort Lewis professors Luke Miller, Tino Sonora and Deborah Walker.
The forum may be watched particularly carefully this year because of the state of the economy. Recent indicators, including sales-tax receipts, unemployment data, real-estate sales, and ridership on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, all point to the national recession increasingly affecting local businesses and individuals.
"If there was ever a time that we needed some good advice on the economy, it is now," college spokesman Mitch Davis said in a new release.
The forum is free and open to the public.
