Ski, snowboard team meeting Thursday
The fall orientation meeting for the Purgatory Ski and Snowboard Team and the Durango Freestyle Team will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Durango Public Library.
The programs are open to ages 6-18.
A snowboard team is joining the lineup this year under the Durango Winter Spors Foundation.
The meeting will cover program details, training schedules, tuition and scholarship information.

X Rock cleanup day scheduled Oct. 30
Rock the X, a volunteer effort to clean up the area around the X Rock climbing area in Durango, will be held Oct. 30.
The cleanup project will start at 8 a.m. at the paved parking lot for the X Rock in north Durango.
After the cleanup, there will be a barbecue at Ska Brewing with proceeds going to the San Juan Mountains Association.
Representatives of the local climbing companies joined forces to sponsor the clean-up day.

Journey of Hope 5K set for Saturday
The 16th annual Journey of Hope 5K Family Run/Walk will be held Saturday in Three Springs.
The race will start at the Mercy Regional Breast Care Center.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Walkers will start at 9 a.m. Runners will start at 9:15 a.m. Trails in Three Springs will be used for the event.
Advance registration is encouraged.
Entry fee is $20 for adults or $18 for members of Durango Motorless Transit, one of the event sponsors.
Children under 12 are free.

Proceeds from the event go to the Journey of Hope Fund to provide free mammograms to women in La Plata County and Southwest Colorado who otherwise cannot afford them.
Vallecito Fishing tourney returns Saturday
The second annual Vallecito Fall Fishing Tournament will return Saturday.
Registration will begin at 7 a.m..
The tournament will go from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be three categories: pike/walleye, salmon/trout and bass.
The heaviest string in each category will win a $100 prize.
The tournament is sponsored by the Vallecito Conservation and Sporting Association.
Motor vehicle map now available
The San Juan National Forest has issued a new Motor Vehicle Use Map identifying roads and trails open to motorized travel in the Columbine Ranger District.
The Motor Vehicle Use Map will be the legal document used to enforce travel rules in the district.
The new map shows were motorized users are allowed legally.
The new map is available online at wwww.fs.fed.us/r2.sanjuan/recreation/travel.
Printed copes will be available in mid-October at the San Juan Public Lands offices in Southwest Colorado.
The maps are free of charge.
The Columbine Ranger District Vehicle Use Map joins the Pagosa Ranger District Motor Vehicle Use Map, which came out in February.
The Dolores Ranger District Motor Vehicle Use Map will be available in 2011.
