Motor vehicle use map outlines travel rules
The San Juan National Forest has issued a new Motor Vehicle Use Map identifying roads and trails open to motorized travel in the Columbine Ranger District.
The Motor Vehicle Use Map will be the legal document used to enforce travel rules in the district.
The new map shows were motorized users are allowed legally.
The new map is available online at wwww.fs.fed.us/r2.sanjuan/recreation/travel.
Printed copes will be available in mid-October at the San Juan Public Lands offices in Southwest Colorado.
The maps are free of charge.
The Columbine Ranger District Vehicle Use Map joins the Pagosa Ranger District Motor Vehicle Use Map, which came out in February.
The Dolores Ranger District Motor Vehicle Use Map will be available in 2011.
X Rock cleanup effort on October schedule
Rock the X, a volunteer effort to clean up the area around the X Rock climbing area in Durango, will be held Oct. 30.
The clean-up project will start at 8 a.m. at the paved parking lot for the X Rock in north Durango.
After the clean-up, there will be a barbecue at Ska Brewing with proceeds going to the San Juan Mountains Association.
Representatives of the local climbing companies joined forces to sponsor the clean-up day.

Narraguinnep boat ramp closes for season
The boat ramp at Narraguinnep Reservoir in Montezuma County has been closed for the season, according to the Colorado Division of Wildlife.
The reservoir remains open for hand-launched, nonmotorized boats like canoes and kayaks. The area around the lake also remains open for hunting and wildlife viewing.
Trailered boats and motorized craft were inspected periodically during the summer season for evidence of quatic nuisance species such as zebra and quagga mussels. Those inspections will continue in the 2011 boating season.
Marathon runners deliver two bouncing baby boys
NEW YORK (AP) Marathon runners Paula Radcliffe and Kara Goucher gave birth to baby boys just a few days apart.
The 36-year-old Radcliffe gave birth to Raphael right on schedule last week.
Top American marathoner Goucher had her baby, Colton, on Saturday.
The friends shared the same due date.
Goucher is a former University of Colorado runner who is married to Adam Goucher, another former CU and Colorado prep standout.
Radcliffe said that her 3-year-old daughter, Isla, is very happy and excited to meet her little brother.
This is the first child for the 32-year-old Goucher.
She finished third at the 2009 Boston Marathon and 2008 New York City Marathon, when Radcliffe won her third NYC title.
Both plan to compete at the 2012 London Olympics.
Park service veteran to lead Yellowstone Park
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) A 35-year veteran of the National Park Service was appointed the next superintendent of Yellowstone National Park.
Daniel Wenk will succeed Suzanne Lewis, who is retiring after eight years overseeing the nations first national park.
Wenk, who is 57, began his career with the agency in 1975 as a landscape architect at the Denver Service Center. In 1979, he worked as the landscape architect for Yellowstone. From 1985 to 2001, Wenk was superintendent of Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota. He has been deputy director of operations for the Park Service for the last three years.
