Garden club to meet Wednesday
The Garden Club of Durango will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Program Room 1 at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
Darrin Parmenter, La Plata County Extension agent, will present a program called Soil: Putting Your Garden to Bed.

Model railroad association to meet
The Silver San Juan Division of the National Model Railroad Association will meet at 9 a.m. Oct. 16 in the Head Start meeting room at the Durango Northpoint Mall, south of the intersection of Camino del Rio and Main Avenue.
Doors will open at 9 a.m., and the first presentation will be held at 10 a.m. The public is invited.
Don Paulson, curator of the Ouray County Historical Society, will give a presentation called The Silverton Railroad Then and Now.
The meeting also will feature door prizes, a photo contest, From the Workbench (where modelers display and discuss current projects), a favorite train contest, board elections and layout tours.
Animas Museum announces events
The Animas Museum, at 31st Street and West Second Avenue, will hold these events:
b A retirement celebration and fundraiser for Robert L. McDaniel will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 17 in the Miller Middle School Auditorium. The cost is $50 per person. Tickets are available at First National Bank of Durango, Oscars, the Animas Museum and at www.animas museum.org.
b Mark Winter, trading post owner, collector and author, will present Two Gray Hills: The Cadillac of Navajo Weaving at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at the museum.
b The Cliff Dwellings Speak will be held at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at the museum. The authors of The Mining Camps Speak will give a slide presentation on their new book. A book signing will follow.

Trainings to address violence Oct. 18
The Colorado Link Project and the Colorado Division of Criminal Justice will offer two free trainings Oct. 18 in the Lightner Room at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
Clinical Supervision for Domestic Violence Supervisors and Sex Offender Treatment Providers will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and Animal Cruelty and Violence Toward Humans will be held from 1 to 5 p.m.

Bayfield library to hold Excel class
The Lavenia McCoy Public Library in Bayfield will hold Intro to Excel from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 18 at 395 Bayfield Center Drive.

LPEA to hold heating, cooling workshop
La Plata Electric Association will host a Heating/Cooling Workshop from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 21 at 45 Stewart St. in Bodo Industrial Park.
Lunch will be served. The workshop will explore the latest innovations in energy-efficient space heating and cooling as well as rebates available to those installing new systems.
The workshop will include presentations by manufacturers representatives about heat-pump water heaters, electric-thermal storage heat and ground-source heat pumps.
