A big week for the Bobcats continued Thursday.
Ignacio High School’s baseball team picked up a 6-4 win at home against Dove Creek two days after a 9-2 win against Class 3A Bayfield.
A Zach Weinreich two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning helped Ignacio (6-7, 4-4 2A District 3/5) keep the Bulldogs (0-15, 0-4 1A District 1) winless on the season.
Cole McCaw pitched four innings and allowed four hits and one unearned run. He walked five but struck out six. Marcus Chapman pitched the final three innings and allowed only one hit, but he allowed three runs, only one of which was earned. He walked four and struck out seven, including the go-ahead run to end the game.
Weinreich’s blast did the damage in the bottom of the sixth in his only at-bat of the game. Dove Creek added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, but the Bobcats escaped any further damage to preserve the win.
Six different Bobcats scored in the game. McCaw was 1-for-2 at the plate with a run. Timmy Plehinger-Williams went 1-for-2 with a run and a run batted in.
Ignacio will look to push its overall record to .500 with a 2 p.m. Friday home game against Nucla.
