Whether your family has been in Southwest Colorado for generations or youve recently moved to the area, it doesnt take long to figure out that we are a bunch of resilient, hard-nosed Westerners who believe in taking care of ourselves. We dont wait for for the well to run dry before we start drilling another, and we dont rest easy, content that the government is going to take care of our problems. We take matters into our own hands and solve problems as a community.
That is what ballot initiative 3A is all about. The state of Colorado is facing unprecedented budget shortages in the coming year, and one of the hardest hit areas will be education. Money that has traditionally bolstered our educational programs and helped to keep our class sizes small simply wont be available.
We care about the kids in our community too much to sit back and see what the state government does; its time to come together as a community and do whats best for kids. We owe it to them to retain our small class sizes, ensure we have the technological training opportunities that are critical in a global job market and make sure that we have exceptional teachers and support staff in the classroom.
Lets hold true to our Western values and plan ahead for the disaster that lies around the bend. Vote yes on 3A.
