I have read many of the letters in support of this or that candidate to understand why I should or shouldnt vote for him or her based on their records, history or beliefs. As our country continues to flounder economically, however, I would like to make a suggestion in how we might decide on who we should support.
Rather than just focusing on a candidate or a party, I would suggest that we vote for the most fiscally conservative candidate in each race, whether Republican, Democrat or independent. Our government federal, state and local has been largely run by irresponsible, spend-crazy politicians who believe the answer to our problems lies in more government programs and more spending.
They are wrong. What has made this country great is the individual worker or entrepreneur. The road to our economic recovery will succeed only if we reduce the heavy burden our government has placed on small businesses and individual workers.
Politicians who believe that the road to economic recovery rests in increasing the size of government, increasing taxes, adopting new entitlement programs and imposing stifling regulations will most assuredly lead us into a devastating economic decline. To put it simply, it is like dumping an extra 100-pound weight on Secretariat and expecting him to still win the Triple Crown.
I strongly encourage everyone to look closely at each candidate, see through the political rhetoric and vote for the most fiscally conservative candidate. Let American businesses and workers lead us out of our economic malaise.
