High-schoolers chosen for trip to D.C. La Plata County high school juniors, Isaac Jordan of Ignacio, Collin Jackson and Sloan Mazur of Bayfield, and Jesse Laverty and Tate Hinger of Pagosa Springs, were recently selected to represent La Plata Electric Association on June 8-15 in Washington, D.C., as part of the National Rural Electric Youth Tour.
The student representatives will join other juniors, selected by sister electric co-ops across Colorado, in Washington, D.C., to discuss current concerns with national and state congressional representatives and learn about the U.S. Capitol and government. Tours of monuments and museums, and social activities, are also part of the itinerary.
All current high school juniors, including home-schooled students, who receive their electric power from La Plata Electric Association may apply for the Washington D.C. Youth Tour.
Applications for the 2018 Washington D.C. Youth Tour will be available in November at LPEA offices in Durango and Pagosa Springs, from area high school counselors or online at www.lpea.coop.
