Pancreatic Cancer Month is November
November is Pancreatic Cancer Month, and the American Cancer Society recommends that people in families at high risk of disease be tested for early detection.
Inherited DNA changes are thought to cause as many as 10 percent of pancreatic cancers.
Talking to someone with experience in hereditary cancer syndromes, such as a geneticist or an oncologist, often is helpful.
Tobacco smoking, adult-onset diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance (sometimes called prediabetes, or borderline diabetes) all increase the risk for pancreatic cancer.
