I am writing about the Bayfield football loss to Brush (Herald, Nov. 21). I think it is inappropriate to publish a picture of a football player in distress in full color if I may add in a story about the loss. It is cold and, in my opinion, not at all what the team needs.
The defeat was not a boost for the boys, and the picture of the senior was highly unappreciated. I, myself, being out on the track watching the boys in distress would never put such a picture in the newspaper. That is not being supportive of our local team. Bayfield may not be the same as Durango, but the town is by far closer to Durango than Brush is. With that in mind, the picture should have been one to boost a local team and not bring it down.
The Pine River Times did not print such an agonizing picture. It ran a picture that highlights the better parts of the game, not just the defeat.
I am just speaking for myself, not the town, or the football players, but if it were me in that picture, in the same state, I would not want The Durango Herald to take my picture again.
