The U.S. Postal Service is asking its customers to help carriers by providing a clear and safe path to the mailbox.
Durango Post Office carrier supervisor Terell Strauss said snow removal is always a problem this time of year. So far, he said, carriers have suffered a "couple of minor injuries." Among the snow-related bang-ups, one carrier injured a hand.
"Last year, we lost a carrier for five months due to a shoulder injury," Strauss said.
Letter carriers are instructed to not deliver to mailboxes and locations that are too hazardous or difficult to access. Snow, sleet, slush, ice and debris, including from nearby sidewalks, steps and porches, should be removed.
