The Ignacio High School wrestling team took only five wrestlers to the annual Dove Creek Invitational on Saturday.
Two of those Bobcats, however, captured tournament titles.
Undefeated senior Casey Haga won at 145 pounds, dominating his opponents with a pair of pins Saturday.
Casey looked good on his feet, Ignacio head coachBob Overturf said. He went out there and attacked.
Haga is 9-0.
Im really proud of Casey and his hard work. Hes in great shape, and hes working really, really hard, Overturf said.
Teammate Colton Wyatt, a junior, won the tournament title at 189 pounds, pinning all of his opponents. In the finals, he stopped a Norwood wrestler who was fourth at state last year.
Sonny Sanchez of Ignacio was third at 171 pounds. He went 2-2 in four matches Saturday at Dove Creek.
Also competing for Ignacio were Christian Knoll, who went 1-4 at 189 pounds, and 103-pounder Antonio Torres.
Overturf said Torres suffered a concussion in his first match of the day. He was taken to the hospital for observation. Hes expected to spend the night in the hospital.
Overturf said he hopes Torres will be back home today.
Overall, it was a good tournament for us, said Overturf, who rested several of his wrestlers with the prestigious Warrior Classic in Grand Junction coming up next weekend.
Among those who will return to the lineup next week are two-time state champion Alex Peña and Teagan Overturf, the son of the head coach.
Jeff Herrera also is expected to make his first appearance on the mat for the Bobcats next weekend in Grand Junction.
We should have some more guys ready, too, Overturf said.
