A local mother is bringing the incredible documentary film Race to Nowhere to Durango. It will be presented at 7 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Smiley Building Theatre, 1309 East Third Ave.
This film is about the educational system and how kids are expected to perform and succeed at an impossible rate, often at the expense of their health, motivation or sense of well-being. The film is done very well, with interviews from the mother who created the film, many kids (middle and high school age), excellent teachers trying to make a difference, child psychologists, parents and more.
I highly recommend this film to all parents, teachers, educators, policy makers or anyone who works with children. You can view the trailer for this film and find more information on the website, www.race tonowhere.com.
Our community is incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to see this grass-roots film that is quickly gaining press across the nation.
Tickets can be purchased for $10 at www.rtn durangoco.eventbrite.com. Any available tickets will be available at the door for $15.
