Deadline nears for Riverfest arts fair
The Riverfest Fine Arts and Crafts Fair announces a final call for artists to enter work for the 2011 event, which will be held May 28-29 in Farmington. The fair promotes original art in various mediums and is open to artists who live in New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Arizona. One artist will be selected for the event poster.
The deadline to enter is Jan. 9. Artists may pick up a prospectus at the Farmington Museum, 3041 E. Main St.; download one at www.NWNMAC.org; or send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to NWNMAC, Attn: Riverfest Fine Arts and Crafts Fair, P.O. Box 2235, Farmington, NM 87499.

DAC to offer womens journaling class
The Durango Arts Center will offer a Womens Life Journal class for six weeks on Fridays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. beginning Jan. 7. The class, taught by Nikki Fontaine, is based on the book The Artists Way by Julia Cameron. Through exercises in meditation, memory and music, students will learn to create their life experience in pictures. Painting, collage and writing are explored in the class. The cost is $90, with a 10 percent discount for DAC members, and includes all materials.

Photography sought for local contest
Adaptive Sports Association and the Durango Photography Club are sponsoring a photography contest in conjunction with the 2011 Dave Spencer Ski Classic.
Monetary prizes will be awarded, and the winning entries will be displayed at Open Shutter Gallery for the Feb. 24 welcome reception for the Ski Classic.
The deadline for photo submission is 3 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Adaptive Sports office, 125 E. 32nd St. (across from north City Market).Photographs should be 8-by-10 or 11-by-14 inches for judging and need not be matted or framed.
Each photographer can enter up to six photos for a total fee of $15. All photos will become property of the Adaptive Sports Association to be used for marketing purposes.
Electronic versions of the photo will not be accepted for judging, but ASA requests a high-resolution electronic file (1 MB or larger) for print reproduction of all winning photos.

Abbey to screen local filmmakers latest
The Abbey Theatre will host a premiere screening of Wherever Youre Going, the newest ski film by 20-year-old filmmaker Matt Mulligan and The Shadow Puppet Collective. Its the third film by the local production company and includes footage of local skiers and kayakers.
Doors open at 8:30 p.m., and the film begins at 9 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door and includes food and giveaways.
