Fifth-graders wanted for essay contest
The Colorado School and Public Employees Retirement Association and AARP Colorado will hold a Grandparents Essay Contest, in which fifth-graders compete for savings bonds of up to $100.
Participants will write 150-word essays about Why my grandparent(s) is/are the best in the world. The state is divided up into four areas, and a winner and runner-up will be chosen from each area to receive a $100 federal savings bond for first place and a $75 bond for second places.
Essays are judged by members of CSPERA and announced in the spring of 2011.

Early childhood council to meet in Cortez
The Montelores Early Childhood Council will meet at 11:45 a.m. Jan. 10 at the Church of Christ annex on the corner of Adams Street and Montezuma Avenue in Cortez.
