Casey Haga and Alex Peña won individual titles for the Ignacio Bobcats at the 20-team Rocky Mountain Invitational wrestling tournament in Pagosa Springs on Saturday.
Haga won the 145-pound tournament championship and was named the outstanding wrestler in the upper weight brackets.
Teammate Peña, a two-time state champion, dominated to win the 119-pound title in Pagosa Springs.
Alex looked a lot better this week, Ignacio head coach Bob Overturf said.
Peña had lost two matches at the Warrior Classic in Grand Junction just before the holiday break.
He looked good (Saturday), Overturf said.
Casey (Haga) really wrestled well. He beat Micah Keys from Centauri in the semifinals, Overturf said.
Haga won the title with a win over Bloomfields top 119-pounder.
Colton Wyatt was second for Ignacio at 189 pounds.
Jeff Herrera added a fourth-place finish for the Bobcats.
Teagan Overturf ended up fifth in the 152-pound bracket. He lost to eventual tournament champion Aaron Velasquez of Bayfield in the first round. But Overturf came back to win four consecutive matches and take fifth.
Derrick Naranjo was sixth for the Bobcats at 171.
Jeff Herrera did a good job. Its great to have him back with the team, Overturf said. For him, its a matter of mat time.
Ignacio finished seventh in the tournament.
Bayfield won with 181 points. Bloomfield was second with 167. Durango was third with 160. Air Academy of Colorado Springs was fourth. Centauri and Monticello, Utah, tied for fifth with Ignacios 126 points good for seventh.
