Never once when seeing a Confederate monument have I thought of slavery.
These monuments were erected to honor the courage and valor of warriors, and to express regional pride of the South.
Apparently, some African American leaders have told their followers that these namesakes and monuments represent slavery. They are doing our entire region and the people they represent a grave disservice.
It is tremendously sad that they are trying to wipe out history, making them no different than the Taliban and Isis in the Middle East.
We are proud of Texas. Pride in the South is no different.
